Coronavirus Self-isolation Survival Kit

The world is on lock-down and in South Africa we’ve been in self-isolation for a couple of days now. To help you get through this time, I have compiled a digital Coronavirus Self-isolation Survival Kit.

I am in day three of self-isolation and in theory, this is my time to shine. As an introvert with anxiety issues, I’ve basically been training for self-isolation my entire life. But even so, my choice to go out, aka my freedom, is at threat and that is making me uneasy. I can’t even imagine what extroverts are going through!

To help with the cabin fever and taking everyone’s mind off the fact that we’re in self-isolation, I have compiled two playlists (1 x music; 1 x podcasts), included a document with virtual museum links, free online cooking lessons by experts and free online access to Broadway musicals.

The music playlist

It is 73 songs that really shouldn’t ever be on one playlist, but why the heck not? Old rules don’t apply in a self-isolating Coronavirus world. I threw caution to the wind. Look forward to some punk, pop, rock, EDM and rap from the 80s straight through to 2020. Enjoy my Life in Isolation playlist.

The podcast playlist

I’ve curated 64 podcast episodes for my Podcasts for Isolation playlist that will entertain and educate. On the list you’ll find episodes from the following podcasts:

Sh**ged, married, annoyed

This is an incredibly entertaining podcast by stand up comedian Chris Ramsey and his wife Rosie. It has me in stitches every episode and all they do is talk about life and life with a toddler in general. I was introduced to it a couple of months ago and now I am paying it forward.

Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard

Most people know Dax Shepard as a goofy comedic actor, but there’s so much more to him. He uses his podcast to interview celebrities but not about the usual vapid and superficial things. He digs deep into their lives, childhoods and who they are when the cameras stop rolling. An in-depth, relatable look at human behaviour and the human mind. It’s humorous, yet serious at the same time and I always walk away learning something about myself.

Dolly Parton’s America

I included the entire series for you to listen to. It’s a fascinating investigation into the American phenomenon that is Dolly Parton. She seems to appeal cross cultures, religions and ethnicity, but why? It’s a wonderful 9 part series that will leave you learning a lot about Dolly Parton culture and just feeling good.

Happy Place

This podcast is hosted by Fearne Cotton. She interviews inspiring people across industries who have either made a change in their own lives or who help people every day to find a different way of looking at life. It’s all about finding your happy place when you’re not feeling it.

How to Fail with Elizabeth Day

This is one of my favourite podcasts. It celebrates the things that haven’t gone right. In every episode a guest explores what their failures taught them about how to succeed better. It’s good to hear that successful people have wobbles in life too and it’s not just you. I always learn something when listening to this podcast.

I love this one too. It solves the mysteries of the internet and tech. I’ve learned some strange and wonderful things listening to this one. The podcast features stories about how people shape the internet, and how the internet shapes people, in a nutshell.

Love true crime podcasts? Well, then this one is for you and it has a twist, you get to play detective. Every episode is based on a real case and you get to interview suspects and piece together evidence.

The OG of true crime podcasts it gives me the chills at times. Learn about solved and sometimes cold murder cases.
